saved me in my second semester!

If you hate reading 5-10 pages of a case brief in order to get one rule of law, this book is for you! I'm the type of person who just needs the facts, so when I'm reading a case brief all I'm thinking is, "get to the point!" or "how many words are you going to use in order to tell me that it had to be a material breach?" If that is you, or if you are having problems understanding the point of the case brief and how it fits into the big picture, trust me this book is for you. I've tried several others and they don't compare. BTW these books are set up to mirror (keyed) your case books so make sure you get the right one.

excellent supplement

This supplement clearly describes all the major topics covered in a corporate law class. I found it especially helpful in distinguishing between duty of loyalty/conflict of interest issues and duty of care/business judgment rule situations. All the rules are clearly laid out and show the reader when the various tests should be applied. If you are overwhelmed by the large amount of information you're expected to master in a BA/corporations course, this supplement will help you organize that information and give you some perspective on how to manage all the info you're expected to know.
I highly recommend this book.
Also, in case it's not obvious, there's nothing on agency and partnership.

As expected, the Property Law Outline by Emanuel is an excellent source for the black law theory on property law. It is most useful in developing your own outline or flash cards to study for the bar. I recommend that before you delve into your case book, you peruse the pertinent section in Emanuel. It will give you the insight you need to understand the cases better.

still one of the best

After 30 years of its first publications, this book remains one of the best. It treats all the elements of a graduate course in analysis thoroughly. One of the few books that actually goes through construction of the real number system (in Chapter 1) and products of infinitely many measure spaces (in Chapter 6). There is plenty material to choose from, and all the standard topics are covered. In a very few cases notation is a bit cumbersome (or obsolete), but this is no big problem. Highly recommended to all graduate students in mathematics.

One of the best references on the subject

This is the kind of book I appreciate the most: one that's always got the information you need. This meticulous text covers thoroughly just every topic from elementary set theory up to product measures. It develops carefully all topics that should be included in standard analysis lectures (set theory, topology, Lebesgue integral, Banach and Hilbert spaces, differentiation, product measures) at such level of abstraction that the book turns out to be suitable for introductory courses, advanced courses, and later reference. The only one shortcoming I see is that the book includes no bibliography.

Excellent real analysis reference

In many applications today, such as PDE or harmonic analysis, it is crucial to have a really good grasp of the Lebesgue integral and absolutely continuous (rather than continuously differentiable) functions. Many real analysis books shy away from these matters.
Hewitt and Stromberg provide *every* detail, starting from scratch with measure theory, including Caratheodory's construction and fine distinctions such as Lebesgue vs. Lebesgue-Borel measurable sets. They proceed to discuss the Lebesgue integral in detail, then differentiation and absolutely continuous functions, the Lebesgue spaces including Riesz representation and a Banach space primer and finally integration on products (also infinite) of measure spaces. Fourier series and transforms are covered as well as fine details of (naive) set theory.
The book would be perfect if some standard analysis (Taylor series, analytic functions, Hospital rule, ...) was discussed; for this reason and because of its high level, it cannot be recommended as a book for 1st year calculus.

Great investigation

I was very disappointed to read a previous one star review judging the book for having too much content... this is an excellent book if you expect to learn something about the spirit of the times and how it influenced design thinking. If you want to know where architecture, art, design, and counterculture overlap and how it happened, this is the book for you. It gave me a lot of clarity on why pneumatics got so darn popular, among many other topics! I loved the design of the book as well especially with the section breaks using uniquely textured paper. Overall intellectually exciting, visual pleasing, and insightful volume!

Might work well as a doorstop

This catalog was a disappointment. Entirely too heavy. Too much text. Too few photos. I was hoping for something more visually appealing. If you are a theory head, you may love this catalog but, as an artist, I like to look at pictures with the text as sidebar. I am deeply interested in this topic and was drawn in by the cover which is great. I also have to admit that I am a lover of beautiful books. For me, the design of the book got in the way. It was all printed on a flat industrial paper which could have worked if the designer hadn't been trying so hard to make it feel like it hadn't been designed . I understand the choice of paper. I am sure that the posters and flyers of the day influenced it along with a desire for the publication not to feel too precious since the topic didn't lend itself to an overly sumptuous cocktail table kind of book. Maybe if the pictures that were in it were set off somehow? Maybe a light matte gloss on them to set them apart? It is entirely possible that the design was meant to echo the chaotic and creative feel of the times. In that way I get it but that feel can be conveyed without throwing visual literacy out the window. I recently picked up the Black Mtn Catalog for the ICA Boston show and it was perfect. I only mention this because the topics although not the same do have some similarities.... they both describe times of great creative upheaval. It is entirely possible that I am too long in the tooth to appreciate a book like this but I was so excited to get it and couldn't find my way into it. It immediately went back the way it came.

Is it possible to give ZERO stars? The best thing about this book is the ideal of this book-a handbook to turn mere mortals like you and me into Harvey Spector from the USA Network show SUITS. At least it's a cool idea. The second best thing about this book is its cover. There is nothing else positive about this book beyond its concept and its cover. I didn't really expect a life-changing volume but for $8.00 I did expect something more that a book probably written in under three hours and totally devoid of any wit or creativity or useful advice. I suggest that you do not purchase this book. Somebody wants to cash in on the popularity of SUITS--and that's fine with me-- but this worthless book does a great miservice to a great TV show.

Just what a 74 beginner programmer needed

I am 74, not a recommend age to start learning programming. Did a lot of programming back at the time of VisualBasic 1 thru 3 and then decided there were more interesting things... I am now a SOA specialist and I have decided it is time to start programming again, with a more modern tool and chose .Net C#. I intend to start writing web services (soon) :).
The book I am reviewing has turned out to be perfect: I now understand OOP quite clearly as implemented by C# and I love debugging step by step the code which comes with the book. It makes everything so clear.
the book makes sure every single line of code is explained. I am now adding my own comments, step by step into the code (can't rely much any more on the old neurons) and feel I am progressing quite steadily. Isn't this what a beginner's book should be about?
Make sure to comment a copy of the code since for some reason, a nasty "Error CS0501 'Program.Main(string[])' must declare a body because it is not marked abstract, extern, or partial" has begun appearing in the code :(
Will keep updating this post.
Update: Although I was aware of it, I failed to mention that the error mentioned above had nothing to do with the author's code -which presents no mistake that I am aware of - but rather came from my fiddling with the code. The error disappeared without explanation:)

An Excellent First Book on C#

Of course, if I am writing a review on a beginner book on C#, that suggests that I am a novice at C#, so what would I know about it? But I can tell if a book is clear, concise, well laid out, well written, accurate, etc. Compared to other books I have read in this price range and category, this is totally superior. It has an index, page numbers, good examples, well chosen content, and presented in reasonable order as to building of content. And the code is well laid out on the page also - not confusing to read.

I even contacted Jamie, the author, who is extremely personable and actively involved in making any improvements to make this the best publication on the market.

If you are going to get a first book on C#, I would put this at the top of the list. Until I read this book I was thinking of writing my own because of the huge incompetence or indifference as to accuracy, etc. that I have found in other entry-level publications to C#. Like I said, I am a novice, but I still thought I could write a better book than others have done - until Jamie's book.

Of course, you are not going to learn C# Well in One Day - perhaps if you have a photographic memory or better. So, perhaps the title is misleading. Don't let the title throw you off though. It is a great publication.

For the price this book is excellent. Teaches you enough to be able to write your own programs. I got through this book in about 3 days, definitely doable in 24 hours. May take longer for complete beginners who have never programmed before but this is a good starting point.
