Ordeal of Change

Although Eric Hoffer wrote in the sixties, his observations have remained timeless and spot on for truth. I highly recommend this short, terse book for anyone. His other books are equally fasinating and provide great insights. That Eric Hoffer was a longshoreman who writes well and profoundly is another added benefit for all those who suffer under the delusion that wisdom comes only from an ivory tower. I made this purchase now only because all my copies of Hoffer had been aged, torn, coffee stained and suffered from years in a back pocket and needed replacement. You can take the forty years of reading I have gotten as sufficient testimony as to its worth.

content good, but obviously skimped on the printing

All of the content that I was looking for in this book is there - however, obviously the printing was done "on the cheap." Several pages have smears of dirt on them, and I found what looks to be a smashed bug in between a couple of pages. There are a few places where the pages are "wrinkled" (looks like paper does when it gets jammed in a copier). Some of the text is faded or illegible in places where this happened. All of the content that I was looking for in this book is there - but the printing and construction of this book was substandard, especially for over $100.

I like this book, but after learning some phrases, I was told by Nepali people that I know that these phrases are not used in everyday life. They told me that those words were not really the way they speak. I guess the book must use more formal language.

uses transliteration but NOT devanagari

There are two ways to represent Nepali words. first you can write them in Devanagari, which would require that you learn to read Devanagari ( the Sanskrit-based alphabet which they use) or you can use the closest-equivalent transliterated word using the English alphabet. this one just uses the transliteration. If you are serious about stuying Nepali, you would benefit more by getting the Devanagari version ALONG WITH the transliteration - I hope they do this for future editions....

Ahmed proposes that a queer phenomenology might investigate not only how the concept of orientation is informed by phenomenology but also the orientation of phenomenology itself. Thus she reflects on the significance of the objects that appear—and those that do not—as signs of orientation in classic phenomenological texts such as Husserl’s Ideas. In developing a queer model of orientations, she combines readings of phenomenological texts—by Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, and Fanon—with insights drawn from queer studies, feminist theory, critical race theory, Marxism, and psychoanalysis.
