Dr. Kainer is Professor Emeritus of Anatomy, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University.
Thomas O. McCracken is former Associate Professor of Biomedical Illustration and Communications, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Mr. McCracken is currently Vice President of Visible Productions LLC, in Fort Collins, CO.

Not detailed enough for Vet Students

I am a first year veterinary student, and I bought this book thinking it would be a good tool for reviewing my anatomy. Definitely not the case!!! The book is not detailed enough to satisfy the veterinary student (at least not at Tufts!). This is especially true for the nerves and bones. I would recommed getting the Evans and deLahunta "Guide to the Dissection of the Dog" instead, and coloring in their black and white illustrations.

Great INTRODUCTORY book

Some of the reviewers have expressed disappointment over how the book does not have the extreme amount of detail that can be found in books like Miller's Anatomy of the Dog. Dog Anatomy: A Coloring Atlas had a lot of the detail omitted because it is a beginner's introduction.
The book says this right in the beginning: "The format is designed for the dog owner who desires to gain a basic knowledge of canine anatomy." I think the average dog lover would think this book contains a ton of information. It should be enough to satisfy the casual student of canine anatomy.
As for the more serious student, the book has this to say about them: "...dog breeders, trainers, and dog show judges, as well as students of veterinary medicine, veterinary medical technology, zoology, and wildlife biology will find the contents useful for an initial background from which more detailed references can be pursued."
Notice how the book says you can use it as an "initial background" to help you wrap your head around the "more detailed references." I think it serves this purpose well. Anatomy was a hard subject for me when I first started studying it. If I had purchased a more difficult text, I think I would have felt bewildered and probably given up. Now, thanks to this book, the subject isn't scary anymore and I don't think anything of consulting anatomy books that are multiple inches in thickness.

A Colouring Atlas of Dog Anatomy

I am extremely happy with the purchase of this particular book. As a student of Animal Bowen Therapy, I require information that is explanatory and easy to understand. This book is all of that and more. The pictures are simple and it is very easy to see the different aspects of the anatomy of a dog.
I received the book in wonderful timing and as always, found the transaction to be easy and non fuss. I will continue to shop for my books this way as it is 9 times out of 10 the cheapest and best way to do it.
